PHOENIX, Ariz. — Phoenix College Baseball battled in a high-level conference matchup, splitting a doubleheader against Pima Community College on Saturday. The Bears took game one in a thrilling 8-7 victory before falling 11-0 in game two.
Phoenix College now moves to 15-24 overall and 11-15 in ACCAC play.
Game 1: Phoenix College 8, Pima 7
The Bears came out strong offensively, collecting 13 hits and building an early lead that proved just enough to hold off a late push from Pima.
Phoenix struck first in the opening inning and continued to add runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. A big day at the plate from Brayden Flores powered the offense, as he went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBI. Jose Fernandez added a two-run homer, while Walker Cook finished with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.
Despite Pima rallying for five runs in the sixth inning to tighten the game, the Bears bullpen held on. Hunter Daniels earned the win in relief, closing out the final innings to secure the 8-7 victory.
Game 2: Pima 11, Phoenix College 0
In game two, Pima's offense took control, tallying 17 hits in an 11-0 win over the Bears.
Phoenix College recorded seven hits in the contest, with Brayden Flores, Logan Carney, and Gunnar Gift each contributing at the plate. However, the Bears were unable to capitalize offensively against Pima's pitching staff.
Pima broke the game open late, scoring 10 runs over the final three innings to secure the run-rule victory.
