The Phoenix College baseball team delivered a statement performance, defeating conference-leading South Mountain Community College 15-7 in seven innings.
Facing the top team in the conference, South Mountain entered the matchup with an impressive 28-5 conference record and 37-12 overall mark. The Bears, sitting at 12-21 in conference play and 16-28 overall, rose to the challenge in a big way.
After surrendering a six-run third inning, Phoenix College quickly responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to swing momentum back in their favor. The Bears added two more runs in the fourth before breaking the game wide open with a seven-run seventh inning to secure the run-rule victory.
Phoenix College's offense was dominant, racking up 18 hits on the day. Seandavid Loya led the way, going 4-for-5 with four RBIs. Kevin Arellano and Jordan Vigil each collected three hits and drove in two runs, while Brayden Flores also added three hits. Ty Acton and Parker Noah chipped in with two RBIs apiece.
On the mound, Aidan Stenberg earned the win in relief, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing just one run while helping the Bears regain control. Aidan Sandvik started the game, striking out three over 2.2 innings.
Defensively, Phoenix College played a clean game with no errors and turned a double play.
The victory marks one of the Bears' biggest wins of the season, taking down the top team in the conference and showcasing their ability to compete with the league's best.
