Phoenix, Arizona — Phoenix College Soccer proudly announces that longtime goalkeeper coach and assistant coach Carmen Esnal has accepted an Assistant Coach position with the University of New Mexico Division I Women's Soccer program.
Since joining Phoenix College in 2018, Esnal has played a critical role in helping elevate Phoenix College into one of the premier junior college soccer programs in the nation. During her time at Phoenix College, the program captured the 2025 NJCAA Men's Soccer Division II National Championship, earned two National Staff of the Year honors, won four NJCAA District Championships, four NJCAA Region Championships, two ACCAC Championships, and made six National Tournament appearances.
During her time at Phoenix College, Esnal assisted in all facets of the program while helping develop a championship culture built on accountability, hard work, and academic success.
Phoenix College Head Coach David Cameron praised Esnal's contributions to the program and the impact she has had on countless student-athletes.
"Carmen has been one of the most influential coaches our program has ever had," said Cameron. "Her ability to connect with players, demand excellence, and create an environment of accountability and growth helped shape the championship culture we have today. She is a relentless worker, an elite coach, and an even better person."
Cameron also emphasized Esnal's role in the national success of the program.
"The University of New Mexico is gaining a tremendous coach who will positively impact that program immediately," Cameron said. "While we are sad to see Carmen leave Phoenix College, we are incredibly proud of her and excited for this next chapter. She has earned this opportunity through years of sacrifice, loyalty, and commitment to helping young people succeed both on and off the field."
Esnal's move to the University of New Mexico marks another milestone for Phoenix College Soccer and reflects the continued growth and national recognition of the program.
