Phoenix College Softball Rises to No. 5 in the Nation Behind Strong Season and Star Performances

The 2025 Phoenix College Softball team is making serious noise across the NJCAA landscape. With a powerful mix of veteran leadership, breakout freshmen, and consistent coaching, the Bears have surged to the No. 5 national ranking, continuing the program's long-standing tradition of excellence on and off the field.

Their recent doubleheader sweep over then-No. 5 Pima Community College was a defining moment. The Bears edged out a 3-2 win in Game 1 thanks to a clutch two-run shot by Harli Noriega, followed by a dramatic walk-off win in extra innings in Game 2, where J'kaia' Graves led the way with 3 hits and 4 RBIs.

Leading the Charge

Several players have stood out through the first half of the season:

  • Yasmine Bernal (P) – One of the nation's top arms, Bernal has been nearly untouchable. She boasts an 18-3 record with dominant strikeout numbers and composure in big moments. Her complete game victory in Game 1 vs. Pima was textbook.

  • Harli Noriega (2B) – A fiery presence in the lineup, Noriega not only swings with power but plays with heart. Her game-tying two-run homer against Pima sparked the Bears' momentum.

  • J'kaia' Graves (3B) – Explosive at the plate, Graves has delivered in high-pressure moments all season. Her bat was the difference in the Game 2 win over Pima.

  • Katie Hofmann (C/DP) – A reliable run producer, Hofmann has provided power and leadership. Her 3-run homer in the second game of the Pima series helped keep the Bears in the game.

  • Bridget Moen (CF) – Quietly consistent, Moen's defense and ability to get on base have given Phoenix key sparks throughout the year.

  • Maddison Peter, Sydnee Taylor, and Gianna Baca have also played key roles, especially in rotation depth and defensive execution.

Looking Ahead

Now sitting at No. 5 nationally, the Bears have their sights set on a Region I title and a deep postseason run
