No. 16 Phoenix College Splits Regular Season Finale with No. 7 Pima; Set to Face South Mountain in Postseason

The No. 16 Phoenix College softball team closed out the regular season with a split against No. 7 Pima Community College on Saturday at home. The Bears finish the regular season at 37-11 overall and 31-11 in ACCAC play, while the Aztecs move to 44-7 (36-6 ACCAC).

Phoenix College took Game 1 in a high-scoring battle, defeating Pima 13-11 behind a strong offensive performance. The Bears recorded 15 hits, led by Gianna Baca, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Eva Issitt added three hits and three RBIs, while Taylor Borup contributed three hits and two RBIs.

Trailing early, the Bears used a five-run sixth inning to take control. Julianna Nava (13-2) earned the win in relief, and Aubree Lovo picked up the save.

In Game 2, Pima rallied late to secure an 11-7 victory, scoring six runs in the seventh inning. Phoenix College jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, with RBIs from Olivia Deford and Taylor Borup. The Bears finished with 12 hits, but were unable to hold off the Aztecs' late surge.

With the regular season complete, Phoenix College now turns its attention to postseason play.

The Bears enter the Region I, Division II Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 South Mountain Community College on Thursday May 7th at 11:00 a.m. The No. 1 seeded Pima Community College will take on No. 4 Scottsdale Community College at 2:00 p.m.

All tournament games will be part of a double-elimination format and will be held at West Campus Aztec Field.
